How to become an excellent student

step :

  1. Become an Excellent Student Step 01.jpg
    1
Like all exceptionally great students, you must pay attention. When a teacher is giving a lesson, take notes and if you don't understand something, raise your hand and ask questions. The more questions you ask, the smarter you'll get, believe it or not. By passing notes and talking to friends, you won't learn anything, so pay close attention!

    2
Review your notes when you have free time.
  3. Become an Excellent Student Step 03.jpg
    3
Take some time to write some problems up, or you could ask someone to write them for you. Just remember, it doesn't hurt to go over what you have learned.
  4. Become an Excellent Student Step 04.jpg
    4
Do your homework. Teachers give you homework for a reason. It is to review what you have learned that day. Take advantage of your free time. Do your homework on the way home from school and in any spare time. Do as much at school as you can; you have the teacher there in case you need help. Make sure not to rush on your homework, to check over it, and to be neat. If you really want to be a successful student, you should know right from the beginning when you want to be great at anything, you have to put up with things that just don't seem fair. Doing your homework is not a big deal. Remember, homework can also help you develop good habits and attitudes. Always do what is asked of you.
  5. Become an Excellent Student Step 05.jpg
    5
Be prepared. Bring everything you need with you to class. It would be a good idea to bring books, folders, pens, pencils, homework, review sheets and anything else you need.
  6. Become an Excellent Student Step 06.jpg
    6
Get organized. Staying organized in school is extremely important. If you are organized, then you are one step ahead in being successful. Keep a folder for each subject, and yes, you put your math papers in your math folder, you put your Language Arts papers in your Language Arts folder, you put your science papers in your science folder, and so on. It would really be a good idea to color code or label your folders.
  7. Become an Excellent Student Step 07.jpg
    7
Study. It would be a good idea to start studying a few days before a test. Make astudy schedule. If an extracurricular activity gets in the way of your studying, tell the person in charge of that certain event that you will not be able to attend that event, or you will have to leave early. However, there will be certain situations where you will have to attend. In this kind of situation, you will just have to study another day. This is where your study schedule comes in. Write out a schedule of the week of your test and find your free time. Always remember, use your time wisely. Study as if you are motivated for the outcome of your hard work.
  8. Become an Excellent Student Step 08.jpg
    8
Start to read a little more. If you are not already a reader, start at your level and work your way up. You may not know this, but by reading more challenging and difficult books, you are expanding your vocabulary.
  9. Become an Excellent Student Step 09.jpg
    9
Ask a parent or older sibling to look over your notes and create a mini-test for you 3 days advance of your test. You should always want to study before the night of your test.
  10. Become an Excellent Student Step 10 Version 2.jpg
    10
If you're stuck then do not lose your cool, just focus on your work and you'll succeed.
  11. Become an Excellent Student Step 11 Version 2.jpg
    11
Use of mind maps can be helpful for understanding hard topics.
  12. Become an Excellent Student Step 12.jpg
    12
Don't put off work for later. Make a daily routine for yourself, it really works. Keep all of your electonics such as your phone, iPod and laptop away from you as these cause distraction. When you come home from school, read through what the teacher has said in class that day and practice a few math problems to be right on top.

Friendship

People define friendship in many different ways. It almost always means something different to you than it does to the person standing next to you. This is my definition of friendship. I have always been one to value true friendship. I believe there are many that come into your life for a reason, but there are only a few who stay and travel the distant with you.
Friendship is a personal relationship shared between each friend for the welfare of each other, in other words, it is a relationship of trust, faith and concern for each others feelings. It is a relationship of mutual caring and intimacy among one another. A friend is one who knows you as a person and regards you for what you are and doesn’t expect you to be anyone but who you choose to be.
In certain cases friendship may not last for a long period of time and might end or lose its prime importance of love and regard for each other. There are some friendships which might end with unresolved conflicts and tiffs which means that these types of relationships were not strong enough to hold on in adversity and bad times. Friendship is not about who left but about who stays with you and weathers each and every storm. Friendship requires loyalty, truth and complete understanding. It involves communication when you don’t understand something. Communicating can be the difference between hurt feelings and the end of a friendship to the feeling of contentment and mutual understanding when someone is lost and needs some time to heal.
It should be understood that not all friends are best friends. One might come across numerous friends in this life but there are very few who will be their during your ups as well as stand by you when you are down. How you recognize your best friend is the one who will understand your strengths and shortcomings and would be with you matter what. Best friends put aside pride and hurt feelings, and just care enough about the other to save the friendship.
I’ve been lucky in this life to have a best friend and a few good friends that I can count on to be there when I need them. There have also been some hard lessons too. I have learned that I trust too much, share too much and give too much some of the time to people who just wouldn’t do the same for me. This has left me a bit more closed off than I used to be. I am slowly learning who is important and who really cares. I am learning who deserves my friendship and who I should forget.
That is my opinion of how the  bond between true friends is formed. So best of luck in finding or recognizing a true friend and if you have one, don’t let them go.

The Big Advantages of Boarding Schools

The Big Advantages of Boarding Schools

1. Boarding schools traditionally have highly qualified teachers who see their work as a calling – not a job.
2. Children at boarding school benefit from small classes and heightened interaction between students and their teachers.
3. The residential campus environment ensures that students are immersed in an educational world where learning is central to all activities. It’s a unique setting that promotes common experience, camaraderie, friendship, trust and honesty between children and adults.
4.  Boarding school students are uniquely prepared for university life. Graduates often end up attending the finest universities. In addition, they arrive at college better prepared for academic rigor because of they learned how to be responsible at boarding school.
5.  Students are conditioned for future success because they are encouraged to achieve their full potential at boarding school.  Studies show that boarding school graduates not only excel at university, but advance rapidly in their professional careers.
6. Boarding schools bestow on students an independence they would not have living at home. It’s an ideal preparation for the challenges and responsibilities of adult life.

How to reduce stress?

Young people should have everything to be happy about, but as the generation with the least responsibility we actually experience the most stress. A 2013 survey by the Nightline Association found that 65% ofstudents feel stressed.
Students juggle part time jobs with university, worry about assignments and stress about the future and how to make the next step. Trying to manage all these things at once can leave you feeling overwhelmed.
As a student, every spare minute seems to be filled with worrying – you feel like you have to achieve something and make plans for your future. Instead of relaxing in the holidays, you're planning an internship to add to your CV, or working to earn some well-needed extra cash.
If you're not careful, working too hard and worrying too much can lead to "burnout" – when everything seems bleak and you have nothing left to give.
It might not seem like it when you're feeling down, but living a more stress free life is possible. There are some really easy ways to beat stress effectively. Here are some that I have encountered as a student:

1. A varied and healthy diet

Eating fresh ingredients and lots of fruit is really important. Juices filled with vitamin C, such as orange or grapefruit juice, are said to be good for your immune system so can help with stress.
When you're busy and tired it can be tempting just to grab another pizza or ready meal, but cooking from scratch can be therapeutic as well as being healthier.

2. Exercise

Doing sport at least once a week is the best way to reduce stress. It helps your body produce endorphins, which make you feel good. Even daily walks of 30 minutes can help reduce stress levels but it's even better to work out intensively. Even if you don't feel like it at the time you will feel the benefits afterwards.
Joining a sports club could also help with stress as the regular contact with other people should help improve your mood.
And why not try yoga? It's a great way to ease your mind and relax your muscles.

3. Meditation

It might sound simple, but sitting quietly for 10 minutes a day can really help with stress levels. If you've never tried meditation before, it's worth a go.
Good breathing techniques can put you in a more relaxed state as they send oxygen surging through your bloodstream, helping to calm you down and beat the stress.

4. Take breaks regularly

Short breaks between working can help you switch off. But longer breaks are important too.
How about taking the weekend off to relax? Make time for fun and for yourself even if this means that you have to schedule time away from your work. You'll hopefully come back to your work feeling fresh.

5. Get a pet

It is said that spending time with animals is good for your health. If youpat a dog for a couple of minutes, your body releases hormones that make you feel happy and can decrease the amount of stress in your system.
Most uni halls won't let you keep an animal though, so spending some time with friends or family who have pets is a good option: you get the love without the commitment.

6. Sleep (and sign off Facebook)

Sleep is always the best medicine and some people find that small 20-minute naps can help increase productivity.
As students we tend to spend too much time on social media sites and answering emails, texts and phone calls. Sociability is fun – but too much of it, and too much computer time, can lead to more stress.
Failing to switch off from work because of your electronic gadgets will only make you even more stressed.

7. Quit smoking

Some people say they smoke to relax, but researchers on the European Board for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco suggest that nicotine suppresses the hormone serotonin, which fights stress. Another good reason to quit.

8. Try to see the positive side

If you missed a deadline, try to appreciate what you learned from this mistake: now you know how to plan ahead. Things might seem bad, but if you try, there is usually something positive to be learned.

9. Listen to music

Listening to music can help calm you down and put you in a better frame of mind. If you're feeling stressed, putting on some calming music while you work could really help.

10. Laugh

They say that laughter is the best medicine, and it's really true. Laughing out loud increases oxygen and blood flow which automatically reduces stress.
Not taking life too seriously can help everyone live a better and easier life. Make time for yourself, log out of Twitter and take breaks. It's about time that we students accept that we can achieve just as much in life without all the stress.

8 Benefits of Reading (or Ways Reading Makes You Better at Life)

8 Benefits of Reading (or Ways Reading Makes You Better at Life)

reading makes you better
The public library is a phenomena that to this day I still can’t get over. Free knowledge, for anyone. Literally, anyone. I can’t think of an equivalent other than going to a clothing store, “checking out” an outfit, wearing the outfit and returning it in four weeks, free of charge.
Except books are so much better than clothes.
Recently I’ve been on a huge reading kick, checking out anything I can get my hands on in the library. (I’m writing a guest post on ZenHabits to detail some of the best stuff I’ve found, so more on that later.)
I’ve found that no matter what I read, the act of reading every day has helped me in nearly every aspect of my life. Here are a few of my favorite ways that reading has improved my quality of life, and will definitely improve yours.

1. Enhanced Smarts

Wow, this may be the most obvious statement of the post, right? Well, it turns out that reading helps in almost every area of smarts. Those that read have higher GPA’s, higher intelligence, and general knowledge than those that don’t. In Anne E. Cunningham’s paper What Reading Does for the Mind (pdf version), she found that reading, in general, makes you smarter, and it keeps you sharp as you age.
No matter what you’re wanting to do or become, you can’t do it without more knowledge. Reading is an excellent way to get where you’re wanting to go.

2. Reading reduces stress

When I’m reading a book, my mind shifts gears. Where I might have a had a stressful day, a book can easily distract me. Fiction is fantastic for this. Reading an awesome fiction book is perfect right before bed time. Though sometimes it’s hard to put the book down if it’s really good. Still, you’ll be relaxed ;)

3. Greater tranquility

Reading can soothe like no other. Given that I’m a pretty high-energy person, reading forces me to sit and be still. This daily act of making myself be quiet and still has been nothing short of miraculous for my anxiety and my “fidgety factor”.

4. Improved analytical thinking

That’s right, ladies and germs. Cunningham’s studies have found that analytical thinking is boosted by reading. Readers improve their general knowledge, and more importantly are able to spot patterns quicker. If you can spot patterns quicker, your analytical skills receive a boost.

5. Increased vocabulary

It’s no secret that reading increases your vocabulary and improves your spelling, but did you know that reading increases your vocabulary more than talking or direct teaching? Reading forces us to look at words that we might not have seen or heard recently at the pub. In fact, language in children’s books are likely to be more sophisticated than your average conversation.
Increased vocabulary is especially crucial for bloggers or writers. All successful writers will tell you that in order to write well, you need to read. Every day. You’ll be surprised at the words you start incorporating into your writing.
A beefier vocabulary isn’t just for writers though. Knowing what other people are saying and using the perfect words to convey your feelings is a critical part of being a better human. Better listeners are more successful in life.
(Side note: If you’re concerned with your well-being at previously mentioned pub, you might lay off the more obnoxious terms you’ve picked up.)

6. Improved memory

I have an awful memory. Just ask my fiancee. I usually can’t remember what I’ve eaten for breakfast, let alone things like names and addresss. Yet I’ve been finding that I can remember stuff much easier when I’ve been reading consistently. Do I have any scientific data to match this up? Not really. But I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet that reading has somehow given me memory mojo.

7. Improved writing skills

This isn’t much of a stretch, considering that reading improves vocabulary and critical thinking. I feel like a better writer, as I’m constantly surrounding myself with works from people who are better than me. That’s why English classes in High School make you read “the classics”. That’s why art students learn to copy masterpieces, so they know what creating something incredible should feel like.
The more you read, the better of a writer you’ll become.

8. Helps prioritize goals

Many times we’re certain we know what we “really want” in life. Yet I’ve found that activities like reading show me things I didn’t know about myself. My mind will drift to things that I’d really like to do, and it isn’t long that these little lapses in reading start to cycle. The same sort of goals keep popping into my head, allowing me to see what I really want to do.
For example, I’ve been playing music on a consistent basis, but I’ve always wanted to produce and distribute my own music. As I’ve been reading, I’ve found that song ideas and other general thoughts on music keep popping into my head. It’s my times reading that have really pushed me into giving music a serious go.
When you remove yourself from your work environment, you’ll start to see things that you might really want to do, that you’re not doing yet. Reading gives you a chance for your to wander.

Under One Roof Programme

it had been nearly a month we had gotten back to school and to be honest, being a form Five student is quite stressing.

the school had enforced the usage of I-THINK , INDEPENDANT LEARNING and a lot more programme in order to improve the students' achievement in their studies.

and this week, the school had started the Under One Roof Programme where a few top students for each subject is picked out and were given responsibilities to teach their friends.

and today had been the second day since we started the night UOR Programme.

we do have tutorial classes which is focused on elective subjects in the evening and for the night's UOR,
1 hour is allocated for each student to revise back the core subjects especially the topics on Form 4.

the students may grew tired with their co-curricular activities, homework and what not, missing their families back home.

but, they have to keep their spirit up high and be more strong as they still have a long more way to go.

DEAR ALACRIS, REMEMBER 1.17 !!

let's fly away and break the wall towards our own success !!
